USMLE Program Announces Delayed Change to Attempt Limit Policy | The Abramson Firm

In February 2020, the USMLE program announced a reduction in the allowable number of exam attempts on each Step or Step Component from six to four that would go into effect no earlier than January 1, 2021. Due to reduced testing capacity caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic, USMLE has delayed the implementation of this new policy. The new policy will go into effect no earlier than July 1, 2021.
\Medical students and graduates with four or more failures on any USMLE step examination would be well served by registering for – and passing – any previously failed exams by no later the July 1, 2021. Although not impossible, it is highly unlikely that the USMLE Program would grant an exception to this new policy once it is put in place.
