The temporary suspension of USMLE Step 2 CS testing has sent a shockwave throughout the medical community. Passing the Step 2 CS exam is one of the key components to obtaining a license to practice medicine as part of any graduate medical education (residency training) program, and likewise necessary for IMGs to obtain ECFMG Certification, which is required of all IMGs before they can begin residency training in the United States.

ECFMG has advised that it hopes to soon come up with alternative pathways for all affected IMGs. For updates, follow ECFMG on social media and review its frequently updated website at ecfmg.org.
