USMLE Announces New Step 3 Eligibility Requirements
Posted March 5th, 2021 by Dennis Abramson.
The USMLE Program’s announcement that it was permanently discontinuing the Step 2 CS examination continues to have far reaching consequences for aspiring physicians and the medical licensing and credentialing organizations, including ECFMG. On March 4, 2021, USMLE announced the discontinuance of its temporary Step 3 eligibility requirements. Per USMLE, the “new” criteria for Step 3 eligibility is the same criteria that had been established before the Step 2 CS examination became part of the USMLE:
- Passing scores on Step 1 and Step 2 CK; and
- An MD degree or DO degree from an LCME or COCA accredited U.S. or Canadian medical school; or
- The equivalent of the MD degree from a medical school outside the U.S. or Canada that is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools as meeting ECFMG eligibility requirements and having obtained ECFMG Certification; and
- Meeting all other eligibility criteria set forth in the USMLE Bulletin of Information
Requirements for all USMLE examinations can be found here.
